Personal Work | Honolulu, Hawaii + GIVEAWAY!

In November I was able to go back to Hawaii for an extended weekend to go to my friends wedding.  On Sunday I walked around my mom’s neighbor hood and took some photos of whatever I saw.  I used two types of film 1. Ektar which gives beautiful, bright colors. and 2. E100vs and I cross processed it.  This film produces crazy colors, especially when over exposed and cross processed.  This was a little experiment, I guess you can say.  I love how they turned out and want to share with you in…

Jrayden Dupass – Until We Meet Again

I was contacted by one of the mothers from NILMDTS that only had the best things to say about the photos I took for she and her family.  In essence, it would be a disservice to baby Jrayden if these photos were not shown.  Again, I have full permission from the amazing Dupass family to show these photos and I’ve selected, with the help of the family, the photos that you are seeing.  I want to stress that I’m not showing these photos for my own gain.  It is honestly for the love of baby Jrayden and for the love of the beautiful Dupass family.

If you’d like to donate to the NILMDTS organization you can go here.  Again this post isn’t for everyone to view.

It’s very hard to know how people are going to react when taking photos.  I feel like an obnoxious fly that keeps buzzing around a quiet room every time my shutter opens and close.  The room is silent and still except for my camera.  If I were these parents I’d probably kick me out until I can come back with a silent camera.  But not these families.  The more I feel obtrusive the more they want me to shoot.  As I was photographing Dad and baby in the beginning dad said to me, “I know I’m supposed to smile for pictures but I just can’t right now.”  I wanted to just hug him but settled with, “No one expects you to smile.”  Baby Jrayden was just too perfect to be here on earth.  I know the Dupass family will be with their baby boy again.

Baby Evie

First off I have to warn everyone that this post is not for everyone.

Baby Evie only spent a few short months in this world and her Heavenly Father has called her back to him.  These are the photos from her viewing.  I also need to say that I have full permission from this family to post these photos and I took very care to be as sensitive as possible when posting and actually taking these photos.

As many of my followers know I’m a volunteer photographer for an organization, Now I Lay Me Down To Sleep.  We photograph babies who have passed away preterm or shortly after birth.  When I first heard of NILMDTS I was kind of unsure.  Then when I did more research I really thought I could do it so I signed up.  When looking through a training video one of the co owners Sam Puc explained how difficult it is emotionally, to photograph these little babies, for the parents as well as the photographer.  She pretty much said she’d be worried about the mental health of the photographer if they didn’t get emotional.  I quickly found that although I get emotional I don’t cry more than one tear.  At first I thought there was something wrong with me and then I realized, nope!  I’m just the way I am so I can do this job.  It takes a certain person to be able to photograph such a situation.  This was not a NILMDTS session but I know that my previous ones prepared me for this one.

We miss you baby Evie!
