More Melanie

These are more pictures from the wedding I second shot with the lovely Meili Ware.  A few days before the wedding we took bridals down in the heart of Salt Lake City.  Melanie, the bride, collects vintage trunks and luggage.  She also set her wedding theme to focus all on families and have a very vintage heritage feel that was both gorgeous and sentimental.  The details and thought she put into her wedding was just amazing!  Stay tuned for more pictures from the actual wedding day!  And again make sure to go check out Meili’s blog!

Time is of the Essence {Utah Wedding Photographer}

I’m so excited that I’m coming on my first year in business.

It has been an amazing experience!

I learned to think outside the box, to not care what other people are doing, and to take risks for better or for worse.

I have also learned that I can’t only be technical savvy, I have to be business savvy as well.  Being a photographer takes time.  It takes time away from my husband and kids, it takes time to edit, process, print.  To scout, drive to locations, make albums, blog, market, design, and advertise.

There are too many people out there that don’t know the work behind the scenes.  I’m here to tell you there is a lot of time spent before and after the portrait session to get you the photos you want.

A lot of time.

I ABSOLUTELY love what I do.  ABSOLUTELY.

But I’ve let my love for photography and others get in the way of what matters most and that is time with my family.

That being said, and you being such an understanding you, I am going to be raising my prices and revamping my packages.  My wedding packages are going to be AWESOME!  Every package is going to come with a wedding album, engagement session, 3 or more months of online proofing, and a custom print or gallery wrap.  Then most of my packages include a cd of all the images and bridals.  You also will have the chance to purchase event coverage a la carte if you want to make your own custom package or to add onto a package.  If you can’t tell I’m super excited about my new packages and everyone getting an album and print.  When the day is over the only thing you have left is photos… and your dress… and your new spouse of course!

But you know what I mean.

I’m also so incredibly grateful for all the people who have supported me this year.  YOU have been amazing!  As much as I would love to photograph everybody for free, because I’m nice like that and I HATE to say no, I just can’t anymore.  My husband says so.  Hahaha!  So friends and family no more free shoots.

Period.

ouch.

Ammon + Kate

There is an expected reverence when you’re at the Temple, Church or something of that sort but never did I realize a reverence in a relationship till Ammon and Kate came out of those glass doors.  We didn’t have to hear shouts of excitement to know how happy they were.  It was the small but constant touch, their beaming smiles, and their radiant spirits that shouted silently, the joy they were feeling.  As I took Kate aside to photograph her alone, Ammon sat watching, impatient to get close to his bride again.

“Do you want to get up there with her?”  I asked Ammon.

“YES, thank you!” He answered as if I let him breath again.

As he jumped up by Kate a calm came over Ammon again and he was able to take a full breath.  I think I almost killed him by separating them for a few minutes.  :)

Ammon and Kate you are a beautiful couple that I was so privileged to photograph and witness the love you have for one another!

Interview with the bride

What time did you wake up?

I woke up at 5:30 because I was so excited. I just couldn’t sleep anymore.

What did you have for breakfast?

For breakfast I didn’t eat much. I had half a muffin because of the excited butterflies in my stomach.

Wedding location: We were married in the Salt Lake City temple.

Reception venue: Our reception was at the Lion House garden.

Caterer: They also catered.

Jeweler: Ammon got my ring at Wilson diamonds and I got his ring at Schubach.

Wedding cake: Barbara Wachs did my cake.

Hair: Hair was done by a friend of my aunt’s in Kaysville. I can’t remember her name.

Wedding Dress: I got my dress at Kathleen’s Bridal.

Flowers: Flowers Squared did my flowers. Weren’t they beautiful?

Makeup: Myla did my make up at the Layton Hills mall. She was so sweet.

Where did you two meet?

Ammon and I met on our first day in our new ward. He saw me and sat behind me in sacrament meeting in hopes of meeting me.

How did Ammon propose?

Ammon took me to a picnic on our apartment complex roof. We ate my favorite Thai food and afterwards he gave me a fortune cookie. Inside it said, “Accept the next proposition you receive.” And I did:)

What was the most memorable part of the day?

The most memorable part of the day was just sitting in the temple with Ammon before we were sealed. I just felt so warm and peaceful. I knew I was making the best decision ever.

What advice would you give brides-to-be who are reading this and planning their wedding?

Don’t stress over the small things while planning. On your wedding day you won’t even care. You’ll just be so entirely happy.

Honeymoon?

We went to Cancun. It was a blast.

Anything you want to say to your husband?

I am so lucky to have such a wonderful man.
